Locke (1988 : 32) offers that listening should be a continuous action in
sequence. Listening lesson should focus on the nature of a problem for understanding or
speaking of learners which are different to the native such as phonetic features,
especially, stress of words, intonation, pausing and emphatic forms. If the students can
learn how to listen to the pronunciation correctly, it will allow learners to speak
accurately.
Rivers (1981 : 16) proposes a concept of listening as understanding voice
which is listened, audience will get some words and intonation to sort and create
meaning even if the speaker spoke with a meaning already in the speech. Trying to
generate meaning to the words depend on the audience and three main factors. They are
language guide, situation in speaking which effects to the listeners’ understanding, and
the intentions of the speaker.
