Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in relation to request to volunteer with your organisation from the 5th March to the 2nd April 2015, assisting at the Ranong Special Care Centre. I have always wanted to work with young people and make a difference in the lives of others and would love the opportunity to volunteer on your project.
I have many skills which would enable me to make a valuable contribution to the Special Day Care Centre. Firstly at university I obtained a 2:1 degree studying psychology. During my studies I learnt an extensive amount about various special needs such as Autism, Downs Syndrome and mental and physical handicaps. We learnt about the physical and psychological ways such disorders affect adults and children and the methods and techniques which can be exercised to help improve the life of those with such disorders.
The knowledge and skills I acquired from my studies would be very beneficial for volunteering on the Ranong project. The in depth understanding I have of such disorders will enable me to engage with children on the project and assist them to the best of my ability. Furthermore, it would provide me with much satisfaction to transfer the skills and knowledge I have to the teachers and carers at the Ranong Centre, this in turn could make a very positive impact on the project. Moreover, after studying English during my A-levels I would be able to transfer my knowledge to help teach English as a foreign language at the centre. I am passionate about the English language and it would be my pleasure to help the children, teachers and carers to develop their English skills and to help them achieve to the best of their ability.
Furthermore, I have already acquired a lot of experience with providing assistance to those who require a little more help and special attention. My younger sister suffers from a disability and whilst growing up together it has been an honour to help her in her day to day life and help her grow in the confidence that she can achieve regardless of her disability. She has come so far and is now at university herself, I couldn’t be more proud. As such it would be so fulfilling to use my previous experiences to help the children on this project, providing them with the care and the enthusiasm they need so that they can see their potential in life and help them succeed just like my sister has.
I am a very patient and caring person and I get much satisfaction from helping others and watching them flourish and succeed. I feel these qualities would be very important on a project such as this and I hope I can apply such qualities and skills which I have discussed to make a positive impact on the lives of the children, teachers and carers at the special day care centre.
Many thanks,
Mairead Sullivan.
