Five natural pozzolans, which are currently used to produce Portland pozzolan cement by Iranian cement factories, have been considered in this work: Shahindej and Sahand dacite from North west Iran, and Sirjan and Rafsanjan dacites and Taftan andesite from Southeast Iran. All were prepared with a particle size of 100% less than 75 μm, and used to produce Portland pozzolan cement by Ourmia, Ardebil, Kerman (using two sources of pozzolanic materials including Sirjan and Rafsanjan dacites), and Khash Cement Factories, respectively.Because most of these raw materials contain zeolite sand clay minerals and have a high loss on ignition, they were heated at 700 to 800ºC to improve their pozzolanic properties.X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) were performed to determine chemical composition sand different minerals in each pozzolan.Spectra were recorded on a Philips PW1800 machine and their chemical compositions determined by XRF using a Philips PW 1480 instrument.
