Table 1 shows that, given appropriate combinations of auxin (NAA) and cytokinin (TDZ, 2iP or BA), rhizomes developed further along one or more of three distinct morphogenic routes (Figure 1a), including: (1) gravitropic rhizomes that were generally covered with trichomes (Figure 1b), (2) shoot buds that included sheath leaves and true leaves (Figure 1c), (3)
inflorescences that had tracts on the node and florets on the terminals (Figure 1d).
