This study set out to examine teachers' current use, perceptions of needs and factors influencing the uptake of ICT. It has shown that teachers in this sample are still in the early stages of ICT development; what might be described as the entry or adoption stages in the Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow (ACOT) model. to be skilled and knowledgeable is of course the key to effective implementation of ICT in teaching and learning and there is no doubt that Scottish teachers in our sample are motivated and interested in developing their own skills and knowledge. They see a need for training which is relevant in terms of content and timing so as to enable them to take advantage of the ICT which is becoming available in schools.
