Situated 2 meters above sea level, and lacking proper infrastructure and planning, Bangkok faces water management and water pollution problems. Presently, 91% of water demand is supplied from river water and 9% from deep wells. Increased rainwater harvesting would decrease problems of land subsidence, ground water contamination and dependence on surface water sources. Decentralized wastewater management systems would also be useful. Sustainable management of water supply and wastewater reclamation require synergistic interactions among government, private sector and community sectors.
