Table 2 presents the baseline characteristics of participants by
weekly fast-food consumption. There were only small differences
in the amount of weekly fast-food consumption between participants
with lower and higher perceived availability of fast food.
Interestingly, based on GIS data, a higher proportion of participants
with at least one fast-food restaurant in their neighborhood
reported no fast-food consumption compared to participants with
no fast-food restaurant in their neighborhood. In addition, eating
fast food at least one time per week was more frequently reported
among those with no fast-food restaurant in their neighborhood.
Other notable differences were found between younger and older
age, white and non-white race/ethnicity, different education levels
and employed compared to unemployed or retired participants.
