Several pretreatments of cryopreservation including various desiccation methods and vitrification were evaluated for their effectiveness on viability and germination rates of B. formosana seeds. The water content of the seeds was also analyzed during desiccation to refine the cryopreservation procedure. The purpose of this study is to establish a practical method of long-term preservation for B. formosana seeds and to provide potential cryopreservation methods for other orchid species.
