This paper consists of two stories which are “The Kiss” is written by Kate Chopin and “The Tell-Tale Heart” is written by Edgar Allan Poe. Both of them are written in different style and different author, so the stories are also not the same. Why the theme and the setting are set in the same that is a following question to find the answer.
While talking about “House”, mostly people give it a definition is love, happiness, and memory. However, this word has some secret things are hidden deeply inside. The theme of two stories that I found is “there is no secret in the world”. For “The Kiss” story, it is written in the sensitive women mind. Nathalie who is unfaithful with Mr. Brantain, who is Nathalie’s husband, but she still love another one whose name is Mr. Harvy. She would like to keep it secretly in the house. According to this story “a house” means “a safe place hiding everything from others”. Nathalie felt in her love at the end because of her bad behavior until her husband knew the truth. As a result, it is interpreted that she cannot get everything in the world because of her greed. On the other hand, “The Tell-Tale Heart” is written in terror story. The story is about the madman whose name is Villians kills the old man because of his a pale blue eye which makes the he fear. After killed, the madman hides the old man’s body in the room in order to keep it secretly. Therefore, a house in this story means the room which is “a dangerous place killing one’s self” because at the end of the story he was destroyed by himself.
In accordance with two stories represent in the theme and the setting are the same, but different in meaning. The results affect the end of two storied in a terrible way. Hence, the secret cannot hide in the word even though others know, closed people know, or especially one’s self know. It is not a secret anymore.
