About 1700 children are injured in climbing frame accidents each year, with somewhat more boys than girls doing so. Most of those injured are in the 49 age group. Arms and hands, and particularly forearms, are those parts of the body most often injured, followed by legs, feet and then the head. 15 % of the children are kept in hospital for further care. The commonest injuries are fractures (41 %), followed by crushing injuries, contusions or bruises (26 %). Concussion occurs in about 10 % of accident cases.
