Establishing the notice payable
Consider whether the employee should work through the notice period or can be paid in lieu of working the notice period?
Calculate notice in accordance with scale under Federal legislation [link to table], or under contract if that is more generous.
Consider whether longer notice is payable because the employee has an entitlement to “reasonable notice”, especially for executive employees, or employees without any specified notice period under an award or an employment contract, and employees with very long service, or where there are precedents in the business for paying such notice.
