2.5. Comments on the existing MIP global supply
chain models
According to the above review and to the best of
our knowledge, there exists a lack of research on MIP models for the strategic design of global supply
chain systems. In fact, as we showed above, in one
of the most recent surveys, Verter and Dincer (1995)
state that there exists a limited body of literature that
considers strategic production-distribution models in
an international scenario. In the same manner,
Fawcett (1992) claims that limited research has been
done in international logistics strategy, and that the
existing literature focuses on descriptive aspects. To
illustrate this point, in Table 2 we describe the basic
international features considered for model formulation
in the existing literature. In this table we include
all the models that take into account at least one
international feature.
