RUM listens to the conversations of network traffic by copying the traffic using a spanning port or a tap. RUM reassembles the requests similar to a reverse web engine. The RUM engine collects the information from the RUM probe using a secure connection. The RUM probe never talks out, the RUM engine always requests the data. The data is then stored in a MySQL database local to the RUM engine for fast queries.
RUM System Contains:
Probe (with repository) – Collects the raw data form the network
RUM Engine (with repository) – Analyzes, Stores and aggregates data
BAC – Presents results through dashboards, reports, and alerts, provides Service Level Management framework, configuration items and stores some aggregated data
