Using the equation of Sloan (19), body density, FFM, and body fat percentage were calculated for each player and compared across playing position (Table 2). Body density was significantly less in the offensive linemen/tightendsthaninthedefensivebacks.The defensive linemen also had a significantly lower body density when compared with the offensive backs/receivers and the defensive backs. FFM was greatest in the offensive linemen/tight ends, a difference that was significant when compared with the FFM values of the offensive backs, defensive backs, and quarterbacks/ kickers. Body fat percentage (27.4% 6 3.6%) was significantly greater in the defensive lineman than in the defensive backs (15.2% 6 1.0%). There was no significant difference in body fat percentage among the offensive linemen/tight ends, offensive backs/receivers, linebackers, or quarterbacks/kickers.
