Several other studies in other countries around the world that used the same methodology for the assessment of CO2 abatement and energy efficiency potentials showthe untapped potentials in the cement industry in those countries. However, the results on the costeffectiveness of the individual technologies could vary in each study.
This is because the cost-effectiveness of a measure/technology depends on several variables such as energy price, choice of discount rate, etc. that could differ from one country to the other. The sectorspecific energy efficiency policies could help the cement companies to overcome the barriers and capture the cost-effective potentials. In the framework of voluntary/negotiated agreement with the cement industry, the government could give supports in the form offinancial
support, information dissemination, and demonstration projects in order to overcome the aforementioned barriers.
