Convenience food is a major food trend in today's societies. Convenience products save time and effort and compensate for a lack of cooking skills. Several classification systems have been proposed, most of them differentiating at the level of processing. Age is the most important predictor of convenience food consumption, with younger people eating more convenience food. An affinity for naturalness and a high level of nutritional knowledge are related to a lower intake of convenience foods. Today, consumers demand healthy food; therefore, the food industry is developing and producing more and more healthy convenience food products.
