Survivability of any kind of biocontrol or biofertilizer organism
becomes a determinative factor for their efficacy. Availability of a
good number of viable bacteria in terms of CFU count in any carrier
based formulation is very important for proper colonization and
functioning. Very good survival ability of both the strains up to
six months without losing much viable CFU count in vermiculite
add merit to these organisms as good biocontrol agents (Table 3).
Contrary to VBC7 and VBK1 the LAB isolates survived shorter periods
in their carrier based formulation. At room temperature they
survived up to 30 days and under refrigeration they survived up
to 60 days without losing much CFU counts (Table 3).
