The desirability of any initiative is usually determined by analyzing costs and benefits. Where the benefit outweighs the cost (short or long term), then the policy or program is economically profitable and desirable. The cost of work-related musculoskeletal injuries is difficult to assess as it involves a combination of direct and indirect cost measures with short- and long-term impacts. The following costs groups should be expected when WRMSDs occur:
