To obtain the same TBSF melanin IC50 antioxidant activity, the concentration needed for synthetic melanin was 1681 ± 91.2 lg/ml, about two times larger than that of TBSF melanin. Therefore, although both TBSF melanin and synthetic melanin showed antioxidant activity, TBSF melanin is a significantly stronger inhibitor of lipid peroxidation.
