The Aborigines concept of creation was that, in the beginning, the earth was flat, lifeless,and featureless. Suddenly giant"beings'', part human and part animal, arose, journeyed across the plain, and created the seasons, mountains, valleys, rivers, and seas. They were called"Cult Heroes", and they had varied names and forms in the myths of the Aborigines. After their earthly tasks were completed, they turned the into rock paintings known as Wandjina.
