After performing the alignment, a peak detection algorithm [8] was applied on both the waveforms. The algorithm uses a peak function for each sample in the waveforms defined as the mean of the maximum values between the left and right set of neighboring points for each sample. Further, based on the calculated mean and standard deviation for each of the peak function values, the local peaks were filtered. These local peaks are formed smaller in magnitude next to the systolic peaks as seen in Fig. 7. This resulted in identifying one significant peak within a window revealing a clear existence of a heart beat.
