Rapid economic development and population growth followed by inadequate infrastructure, expertise, and land scarcity make the management of municipal solid waste as one of Malaysia’s most critical environmental issues [1]. Although there are many options for municipal solid waste (MSW) management, yet landfill remained the most common and desirable management strategy [2] due to low cost, simple procedures and landscape restoring effect on holes from mineral working [3]. However, complex interplay between hydrological and biogeochemical within landfill results in production of an extremely polluted liquid identified as landfill leachate [4].
