The Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) reported on Saturday that the truck and the passenger van used in the Betong car bombing Friday evening had been stolen.
The attack killed two and injured 42.
Col Pramote Phrom-in, spokesman of the southern outpost of the Isoc, told a press conference on Saturday morning that the improvised bomb had been planted in a silver Mazda pickup truck with its extended cab.
The truck, with the Bor Ngo 3616 Yala licence plate, had been taken from Apiwat Janthaem who had been robbed in Bang Khao sub-district of Nong Chik district, Pattani province, on June 1, 2014.
The bomb-packed truck was parked in front of Betong Holiday Hill hotel on Bhakdi Damrong Road in Betong municipality when the explosives were detonated remotely.
Col Pramote said surveillance camera footage showed that a Yala-Don Yang-Hat Yai passenger van had picked up three persons from the parked truck before the explosion at about 4.40pm on Friday.
The van had also been stolen and was left in an area adjacent to Than To district of Yala after the bombing.
Authorities would try to reach culprits through the registered driver of the passenger van, Col Pramote said.
The spokesman also said that Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha was worried about the incident and ordered strict security measures and quick assistance for victims.
