In this study, in-situ matrix hybridization of PLA and
POM was performed by simultaneously or sequentially
braiding the individual resin fibers onto the reinforcement
to produce MBY. This would significantly reduce cycle
time since there is no need for the compounding of
materials to form fiber yarns prior to braiding. For
comparison purposes, however, fibers consisting
POM/PLA blends were also used in this study. The
effectiveness of the matrix hybridization and polymer
blend techniques were compared by mechanical
properties of the composites.
