Submerged, fluid, hidden. There are invisible currents that have been moving for years, flowing on our skin, mixing fashion and sportswear. Young Australian graduate Jillian Boustred tries to intercept them in her collection "Undercurrent", with the help of painting, contemporary art and technology.
Jillian Boustred has a background in painting, which she practiced during the entire length of her studies at the University of Technology Sydney. Then she decided to transfer the world of art to fashion, through colorful prints inspired by the great work of artists like Dale Frank and Cy Twombly.
Hues and textures are at the heart of her creative process. It all begins by dropping ink on wet paper, where the color then spreads in a natural and organic way. The design is turned into a print thanks to CAD elaborations and then takes its form on simple, structured and oversized garments that translate the artwork as if they were a canvas.
Currents of Yves Klein saturated blue converge with coral red stripes, like subtle flows working tirelessly, in an acquatic atmosphere that speaks of processes in continuous transformation, just like fashion: a canvas in constant evolution.
