What We Study
Every group that has come to South Africa has brought its own tastes. All have put their mark on the food. From the Kho people comes kaiings, a dish made by frying the fat of a sheep’s tail and combining it with cabbage. Umqo is a popular pumpkin and cornmeal dish of the Xhosa people. Indians brought curries. Now even some non-Indian foods are spiced with curry flavors. Dutch, or Afrjkaaner South Africans are known for potjies, one-pot dishes that combine veggies and meat or seafood.
