Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos (R) and opposition New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras (L) talk during a meeting at the Presidential Mansion in Athens, Greece, 28 June 2015. Uncertainty reigned in Greece 28 June after its parliament approved Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' bailout referendum, leaving the country sharply divided on the issue of the cost of remaining in the euro common currency bloc. The pro-European opposition parties New Democracy, Pasok and To Potami accused the government of putting the country on the brink of an exit from the eurozone, a suggestion played down by the ruling leftist SYRIZA. Tsipras told parliament ahead of the vote that the referendum he proposed on 26 June was not a tactic to break away from Europe, while former prime minister and leader of New Democracy Antonis Samaras said, "Greece will not commit suicide with you."
