The Mu‘tazilis rejected the possibility of seeing God in the next life. The Ash‘aris believed that while this is not possible in this life, Qur’anic references and many sound hadith refer to the possibility of sighting God in the hereafter. To resolve the problem of the inference that sight would spatially limit God, the Ash‘aris said that it is possible in the next life to perceive God,but in a manner unlike our ‘seeing’ in the physical world through the eye.
