However, it is evident that “training”, or whatever designation is used, is an activity
that is changing as organisations seek to develop more sophisticated ways of delivering
value. The modern professional needs to develop a wider set of skills, to reflect on their
application in more complex organisational settings, and to work with and through other
organisational players to achieve the desired objectives. This changing role has
determined the approach used in the design of the NWU BTD, where the preferred term
used to describe practitioners is education, training and development (ETD) professionals.
