3. The researcher collected demographic data of the participants and the core working group. The researcher distributed the Demographic Data Collection questionnaire to the participants for self-report. These data were used to describe characteristics of the participants, and provide information related to their current and previous sources of education on nosocomial infection and CAUTI prevention.
4. The end of October 2009, the researcher held a workshop to enhance the capacity of the core working group. The core work group were trained by nursing instructors about observational techniques. In addition, the researcher shared knowledge about the PAR process and updated EBP in CAUTI prevention. After that, the core working group and the researcher developed the observational recording form to identify the practices of HCWs related to the guidelines for prevention and control of CAUTI. The observational recording form consisted of 5 parts including
1) catheter insertion, 2) perineal care, 3) urine bag emptying, 4) caring for indwelling urinary catheter insertion, and 5) checklist for urine sample collection. These checklists were then revised according to three experts’ suggestions from the Faculty of Nursing, Chiang Mai University. Additionally, the researcher conducted several meetings with the core working group to share knowledge about focus group discussion and in-depth interview. The researcher together with the core working group developed the focus group discussion guide and in-depth interview guide for use in the next step.
