Psychosexual integration is important for celibate chastity. Celibate persons also have to be chaste, that is, they have to express their sexuality, relate to others only in ways appropriate to their state of life. If they have not reached the integration appropriate for their age and status in life, then they will use their sexual energies in deviant ways, for selfish motives. This will go contrary to the life of celibacy that they have chosen.
Celibate chastity calls for an acceptance of our sexual nature. When we do not accept ourselves as sexual beings, we can have fear and guilt about anything related to the genital. Guilt-ridden feelings about sexual arousal, erection, and spontaneous orgasms can prevent us from living our chastity joyfully and peacefully. We need to appreciate our sexual longings and our genital arousals as natural part of being men or women. We do not deliberately seek them or act to satisfy them, but we need to accept them as part of the human condition and be at peace with them.
