MUCOLYTIC (MUCOKINETIC/MUCOREGULATOR) AGENTS
Evidence to support use of mucolytics (amboroxol, erdosteine, carbocysteine, iodinated glycerol) in the treatment of COPD is controversial. Some COPD patients with viscous sputum may benefit from mucolytics; however, mucolytics are not be routinely recommended for the overall COPD population. There is some evidence that mucolytics, such as carbocisteine, may reduce COPD exacerbations in COPD patients who have not been treated with inhaled corticosteroids [1].
