Compressor stations, used to transport natural gas in pipelines, require engines to power them, although natural gas can be used rather than diesel to fire them. Natural gas emits NOX and CO from combustion as well, but not as much as diesel fuel. The NY DEC’s estimate for NOX emissions from one compressor station engine is 48.3 tons per year. The engine in a
compressor station is expected to run continuously, so this estimate is probably close to the actual amount that would be released annually by a compressor station.
