The goal was to affect positively student confidence in material taught with the
use of multimedia study guides and activities. Research related to use of multimedia teaching
tools indicated a positive impact on grades, engagement, and comprehension for today’s
learners. Concept mapping with a Web 2.0 tool replaced a traditional homework assignment
allowing formative feedback from the instructor. A multimedia study guide was made available
to support student comprehension, memory, and ability to study lab equipment outside
of the classroom. These tools and techniques improved student confidence and positively
impacted grades. The results of this action research were consistent with conclusions drawn
from a literature review.
