Sensitivity to Eye Contact in Autism
Abnormal eye contact during face-to-face social interactions is a characteristic of autism. Individuals with autism are known to have impairments in their ability to perceive mental state information from the direction of gaze, show autonomic hyper-arousal to eye contact, and, at least under some circumstances, spend less time than controls fixating the eye region when viewing faces.
