The themes that emerged in this present study
highlight the importance of developing a culturally
targeted intervention for this at-risk population.
Although scarce, literature on HBV and the African
immigrant community in the US calls for the
development of culturally appropriate interventions
to increase HBV screening rates in this population.
Because the target population differs
in attitudes and barriers on HBV screening from
other at-risk populations, it is important to respect
these differences and consider these socio-cultural
factors in health program messages and delivery of
intervention.
