Leaders challenge their people with audacious goals. Successful leaders use challenging, stretch goals to tell their people that they believe in them. This is a critically important message. Far reaching goals that feel detached from the organization's mission and vision may be perceived as the leaders' "ego trip." But when leaders successfully create a continuity of values, vision, policy, action, and challenge, remarkable things can be achieved, future direction and hope can be created; and organizational effectiveness can be enhanced.
