The book of Hebrews is a challenge in many ways. There are mammoth issues with how the old and new covenants interact, the humanity of Jesus in that He learned obedience; and the meaning of Melchizedek’s priesthood are some of the challenging passages right away. Standing tall over all of these mammoth issues are the five warning passages that have troubled Christians and non-Christian thinkers alike. Can a Christian drift away from that which he first heard? Hebrews 2:1-4 makes it appear so. Can our evil and unbelieving heart cause us to fall away from the living God? Hebrews 3:12 makes is appear so. Can we fall away after being enlightened, never again able to be brought back to repentance? Hebrews 6:4-6 makes it appear so. Is there still a sacrifice for sin if sin willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth? Hebrews 10:26 makes it appear so. Can we refuse Him who speaks to us? Hebrews 12:25 makes it appear so.
