This study aimed at understanding drivers’ parking requirements and choices, so that an efficient policy may be proposed
to regulate the use of limited street parking space. The results inform about the importance of the parking fee, and of the
time used to find where to park and to access the desired destination, all along with the consideration of drivers’ characteristics;
this is consistent with previous results reported in this area (Hensher and King, 2001). Several conclusions have been
derived from the application of this methodology to the case of the Spanish coastal town of Santoña, where frequent parking
problems use to occur, thereby demanding a suitable parking policy to overcome them.
