In 2009, version 3.0 was introduced as an alternate physica
802.11 link to increase data transmission speeds once the
Bluetooth connection is established. However this version
didn't enjoy much adoption by manufacturers. The 2010
revision 4.0 added a complete alternate protocol stack called
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mode to reduce powe
consumption. Both revisions 3.0 and 4.0 continue to use SSP
without changes.
