Pre-abrasion and dry abrasion test results for macadamia shell based and coconut based activated carbons carried out in this study are presented in Table 4. It demonstrates that in the case of CO2 activated macadamia shell based carbons, (activated at 800 _C) a softer than the commercially available steam activated coconut shell based carbon (Haycarb) is produced. The results also indicate that the preliminary preparation procedure used in the manufacture of the granular activated macadamia shell based carbon in this study requires further optimisation in order to improve the hardness of the carbon product and hence make it a commercially viable commodity.
