Renewal and/or recertification was considered for implementation (and actually communicated
via letter) by the chairman of the Board of Examiners (Thomas Hargest) to all
CCEs on December 20, 1977. The letter read, in part:
“At the March 1977 meeting of the United States Board of Examiners for Clinical
engineering Certification, it was decided that those clinical engineers originally certified
in March 1975 and March 1976 will be eligible for recertification in March 1979. After
the latter date, recertification eligibility will occur at three year intervals.”
A renew policy was adopted 1992. It states that applicants certified after 1992 who do
not renew can be revoked but those who were certified before 1992 will become delisted.
