The school system in Germany is structured in such a way that after elementary school, students are directed either to academic-track secondary schools to prepare for university entrance or to intermediate-track secondary schools offering general and vocational education on the basis of their academic achievement. Students with special needs are taught in special schools that provide them with individually based, developmentally effective, and future-oriented support. In our sample, 26 pre-service teachers were working at academic-track secondary schools, 21 at intermediate-track secondary schools, 13 at special schools, and 25 at elementary schools.
