We acknowledge the inherent limitations
of retrospective data collection, which relies on recollections
of victim and dog behavior and other relevant circumstances. There
are many aspects of the interactions and circumstances relevant to
the bite incidents for which data were not collected. Therefore, conclusive
statements cannot be made about anything other than victim
demographics and the human behaviors preceding the bites. The
exact motivation for a dog to bite is purely speculative without a
detailed history and accurate review of body language associated
with the event.
