It must conform to European legislation on the prevention of risk to consumer health and the protection of the environment, especially as concerns the treatment of waste. Packaging made of wood or vegetable matter may be subjected to phytosanitary controls.

Specific Regulations
European legislation provides specific rules for labeling certain products such as foodstuffs, household equipment, sportswear, textiles, etc.
Special marking regulations and labeling requirements exist for pharmaceuticals, chemicals, food products and other product categories. Sweden has very strict health, sanitary and labeling rules and sophisticated capabilities for monitoring product quality.
An EU eco-label exists, intended to be a marketing tool to encourage consumers to purchase environmentally-friendly products. The label will be maybe reformed in near future, in order to reduce the cost and to expand eligible products.
