In addition to this the geopolitical equations in the region influence the character and function of borders. Power relations in the region owing to India’s overbearing areal, demographic and economic status are skewed in it’s favors. However, within South Asia, India’s power is contested by Pakistan whereas India shares an amiable relationship with Bangladesh and Nepal. At the borders, this geopolitics plays out as incidents of smuggling, illegal migration and intermittent skirmishes at the borders. This makes it imperative that India should have a different approach to each of its borders.
