Conceivably the two-fold higher PBC of L. leucocephala may retard N release
under aerobic conditions. The other residues, excepting D. tuberculatus and S. saman, all exhibited net N
immobilization throughout the 16 weeks Figure 3a, b. D. tuberculatus which exhibited net N mineralization from the beginning of the decomposition period, differed from S. obtusa Figure 3b. Both species had similar quality parameters in most respects with the exception of PBC, which is lower in D. tuberculatus 154 g BSA mg–1 than S. obtusa 266 g BSA mg–1. The lower PBC of D. tuberculatus might have allowed earlier N release.
