When differences between school type were analysed, there
was a significant difference in the mean reading scores
between the intervention and control groups (P < 0.037).
Intervention schools performed significantly better than the
control groups in May 2010. The baseline reading score for
the intervention group at the outset of the study was 87.15,
and the posttest score was 93.93, an average increase of
6.78 standard points. This increase in standardised reading
scores for the intervention group was found to be statistically
significant (P < 0.0001). The baseline reading score
for the control group at the outset of the study was 88.24,
and the posttest score was 89.67, an average increase of
1.43. This increase was not statistically significant.
