2.4. Distillation experiment
A model solution for the distillation experiment was prepared by weighting 200 mg of nicotine and 104 g of sucrose in 1 l of ethanol (31% vol). Then, 100 ml of the solution was distilled into 20 fractions (5 ml each) using a laboratory-scale distillation device. The recovery of nicotine was calculated in comparison with the 20 mg total content in the initial solution. The concentration of nicotine and ethanol in each fraction were calculated by comparing the NMR integral with those of the initial model solution.
