In contrast, learning outcomes appear to be affected only by perceived competence. Perceived autonomy by itself appears to have no additional effect on learning outcomes. The observation that perceived competence strongly predicted learning outcomes is in agreement with previous research that showed how classroom achievement is affected by students’ beliefs about themselves and their academic competence
